Celebrating the Spirit of Rakshabandhan

As the festival of Rakshabandhan approaches, I find myself reflecting on how beautifully this celebration captures the essence of what we try to nurture in you every day — bonds of love, trust, and responsibility. This year, as we mark the occasion together in school, I wanted to share a few thoughts with all of you.

## What Rakshabandhan Truly Means

Rakshabandhan is often described simply as the "festival of the thread," where sisters tie a rakhi around their brothers' wrists and brothers promise to protect and care for them. But if you look closer, the festival is about something much bigger than just siblings. It's about the promise we make to stand by the people we care about — through good times and difficult ones. It teaches us that relationships are built not just on affection, but on responsibility and mutual respect.

## Our Rakshabandhan Activity in Class

To help you experience this spirit firsthand, we organized a special classroom activity this week. Some of you made your own rakhis using colourful threads, beads, and paper — a wonderful way to put your creativity to work! Others wrote short notes to a friend or classmate expressing gratitude and support, tying the rakhi not just to a wrist, but to a promise of kindness.

Watching you work together — sharing craft materials, helping each other with knots, laughing over your designs — was a small but powerful reminder of why festivals like this matter in a school setting. They aren't just holidays; they're opportunities to practice the very values we hope you'll carry with you for life.

## Why We Celebrate Festivals Like This in School

You might wonder why we spend class time on festivals instead of just textbooks. The truth is, festivals like Rakshabandhan teach lessons that no textbook can:

- **The value of relationships** — understanding that we all need people who support us, and that we too must be that support for someone else.
- **Cultural awareness** — learning about traditions helps you appreciate the diversity and richness of the world around you.

# International Youth Day: Celebrating the Power of Young People! 

Hello, dear students! 

Every year on *August 12, the whole world comes together to celebrate a very special day — **International Youth Day*. Today, let's learn what this day means, why we celebrate it, and why YOU are an important part of it!

## What is International Youth Day?

International Youth Day is a day set aside by the *United Nations (UN)* to recognize and celebrate young people from all over the world. "Youth" simply means young people — usually between the ages of 15 and 24, but the spirit of this day belongs to every child and teenager, including all of you!

## Why Do We Celebrate This Day?

Back in the year *1999*, the United Nations decided that young people deserved a special day of their own. This is because:

-  *Young people are changemakers* – History shows us that youth have always played a big role in bringing new ideas, energy, and positive change to society.
-  *Youth are the future* – The doctors, scientists, teachers, artists, and leaders of tomorrow are the students sitting in classrooms today!
-  *Every voice matters* – This day reminds the world to listen to what young people think, feel, and want for their future.
-  *Youth face real challenges* – From education to environment to equality, young people often deal with important issues, and this day gives them a platform to be heard.

Even though you may be in Standard 1 or Standard 8, you are already part of this wonderful youth community! This day teaches us:

Numbers, Nerves, and Nailing It — A Math Message for Everyone!


Dear Students,
Jai Gurudev

Whether you're just learning to count or solving equations with variables, math is something that connects all of us in this school — from our youngest learners in Std 1 to our big thinkers in Std 8. Today, I want to share a little math magic with each of you!

For my little stars (Std 1–3):
Math is like a treasure hunt! Every number you count, every shape you spot, and every sum you solve is a treasure you've found. Remember when we counted our fingers, hopped for addition, and built towers with blocks? That's math! Keep playing with numbers — they're your friends, not your enemies. 

For my curious explorers (Std 4–5):
By now, you're becoming number detectives! You're learning multiplication, fractions, and even a bit of geometry. I know sometimes it feels tricky — like when fractions seem to have a mind of their own — but every mistake you make is a clue that helps you solve the puzzle better next time. Keep asking "why" and "how" — that's exactly how great mathematicians think!

For my rising problem-solvers (Std 6–8):
This is where math starts to show its real power — algebra, ratios, geometry, and data handling. I know some days it feels like numbers and letters are teaming up against you (looking at you, algebra!), but trust me — every equation you solve is building a skill you'll use for life: patience, logic, and problem-solving. Don't just memorize steps — try to understand the "why" behind them. That's when math truly starts to make sense.

A message for everyone:
Math isn't about being perfect. It's about being curious, patient, and brave enough to try even when you're not sure of the answer. Whether you're counting to 10 or solving for x, remember — every mathematician started exactly where you are now.

Keep counting, keep calculating, and keep believing in your own brilliant mind. I'm so proud of the progress each of you is making, and I can't wait to see what you discover next!

At our school, we believe that being a good person is just as important as getting good grades. Kindness is contagious—when you do something nice for someone, they want to do something nice for someone else!

Here is a checklist of 5 small acts of kindness anyone can do today:

7 Ways to Create A Strong Relationship with Your Child

### Want To Create A Good Relationship With Your Child?

If I tell you to recall the best memories of your childhood, you would always go back to the fondling memories of your grandparents who gave you chocolates or let you eat **Achaar**.

You may also go back to the amazing trip your family had, or your playmates with whom the field seemed endless green to you.

 

Can you connect the parallel to why all these memories overwhelm you?
A common dot that connects all of these, are happy memories. And like you, every human being holds onto the good memories.
 

Good memories need not necessarily be of trips and good food. They can be as easy as playing Ludo or flying kites. It may also be sneaking out to have mango pickles.

 

So, **a strong relationship comes when you bond with your child**. 

The real hack of creating a connection starts with the following:

Share personal time with your Child:**   We know, as working parents, getting that free time is really tough. But being a parent is definitely the toughest job. You have to meet the deadlines of personal attention here. The more quality time you spend together, the more your child is going to rely upon.
According to a psychology report, for every one harsh interaction, there have to be at least 5 positive interactions for a long term trust. So, as a parent, we have to scold them, just ensure that you keep that up by playing together or doing some fun activities together.

 

 

**Snuggle up for a bedtime story:**  It’s basic science when you snuggle up with your child for a goodnight story or a childhood anecdote, it’s the oxytocin hormone that does the magic. This hormone works like an attachment pill when it gets released in the body. Both you and your child feel happy and your hearts grow fonder to each other.
 

 

**Value your child’s emotions:**  When your child comes with bruises on the leg or complain about how the kid in his class ate his tiffin, ensure that you listen out. They are little human beings, waiting to be heard. They need to feel the attention and note that they are more than thrilled when you consider their emotions.
 

 

**Empathize on how your child feels:** The more you will treat her by being in her shoes, the more social skills she would pick up. And your child would grow up to become a sensitive, heartwarming personality. 
 

 

**Limit the use of gadgets:**  It’s best if you lock away your smartphones, laptops, and tabs when you are with your child.  Give them the undivided attention and help them grow.

For us, it may seem silly but as a parent do encourage them on this. This would make their creative side flourish.
 

 

**Allow them to Interact with their Peers:** While your child is growing up, it’s important to take control that his/her companions are right. But don’t go overboard in restricting them from social interactions. This is the time when they pick up important social skills and traits, which are gonna help them sail the boat throughout life.
 

All of these would make your bond in a way that you never imagined before. Such strong connections will make your child comfortable with you. Adding on to that, this connection will also keep track of the activities and events going on in his/her life.

 

In that way, you would be able to protect your child as you would know about his school life and friends. This mutual trust is gonna work wonders when he/she enters the teen phase and needs your hand to survive the peer pressure.

While waking up every day to attend classes, do regular homework and assignments may feel pretty dull and hectic to you, it also opens up windows of opportunities like nothing else.

In our brief life, we have got so many things to do, and you must be wondering while we can very well happily spend the time in cartoons and video games, why bother studying?


Well, let me share one secret with all of you. The work that you put in today, even if monotonous bears the sweet fruits for tomorrow. See, whatever you do in life, never goes in vain.


The struggle you are putting in today will bear its sweetness when you will get that extra marks in your test or will pass on to the next class where you would feel more confident. Your early education years will enlighten you, see studying it’s not merely gaining the ability to read and write. 


When we say, the education we cross the barriers and extend to the core knowledge, the enlightenment that makes people dream and achieves big. Every child is unique in its own way, and education is one of the most fundamental building blocks of that child.

### Healthy Tips for Your Child & Family

Your children are the most valuable and precious gift to you. But these little buds aren’t big enough to take care of themselves.

So, we know, it takes a lot of effort on your part to make them eat the right cereal, complete the bowl of fresh veggies and stop them from eating junk.

Well added, we know that they sometimes come with an injured arm or bruises in legs and you have no control whatsoever over what happens in school.

With all that we have this ongoing pandemic, in 2020, the best way to take care of these cute little souls is by making them aware and habituated to healthy habits.

 As the adage goes, **“Habit is mankind’s second nature”**.
So, building that habit up is only that thing that rests in your hands as you can’t control every factor in the scene.

And also being the caretaker of your family, you have to look after your spouse as well.

And managing all the stress, hectic work hours, and also your kid’s studies is a lot to take on.

So, let’s get started on what’s that should be done:

**Vaccination report:** In times like this, it becomes all the way more important that your kids are updated on their vaccination schedule.
Children have to be super strong in their immune game. So, ensure that you take regular checks with the pediatrician

So, for your kids and your family, ensure you are having at least 7 hours of sleep every day. Ideally, sleep should be 8 hours a day, but it shouldn’t get compromised below 7 hours.

How to Do Surya Namaskar: Steps by Step Guide

### Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation)

Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutation is one of the most powerful yoga for better mental clarity and a healthy body. While we all struggle, trying to do an hour of cardio, a simple Surya Namaskar can do wonders.

For kids, it makes them more focused as it enhances blood circulation in the body.

Surya Namaskar is nothing but sun salutation, which is a power-pack of 12 asanas. It is considered a good cardiovascular workout.

To have the best results on Surya Namaskar, try to practice it early in the morning on an empty stomach. At a stretch, you can have lemon-honey water before the salutation.

_Remember, each round of Surya Namaskar consists of two sets of 12 postures. _

#### How to Do The 12 Poses of Sun Salutation (Step-By-Step)

##### Posture 1: Pranamasana or The Prayer Pose

In this posture, try to balance your weight while expanding your chest. As you breathe in, expand your chest and stretch your arms. As you breathe out, join your hands in Namaskar in front of your chest. 

 

##### Posture 2: Hasta Uttanasana or The Raised Arm Pose

In this posture, while you breathe in, stretch your arms backward. 

While you stretch, ensure your hand touches your ear. Feel the stretch from your back to your fingers.

 

##### Posture 3: Hasta Padasana or The Stand-Forward Bend

Here, in this posture as you breathe out bend forward and place your hands beside your feet on the floor. Remember to keep your spine erect and try not to bend your knees while being in this posture.

 

##### Posture 4: Ashwa Sanchalanasana or The Equestrian Pose

As you breathe in, pull your right leg at the back, touching your knees with the mat, and keep your left leg at the front. 

Look upwards in this posture.

 

##### Posture 5: Parvatasana or The Stick Pose

In this posture, pull your left leg back. Breathe inwards and keep your body in a straight line while balancing with your body with your hands.

 

##### Posture 6: Ashtanga Namaskara or The Eight-Part salute

In this posture as you breathe out, rest your chest and chin in the mat and move your hips upwards. 

Here your both hands, feet, knees, chest, and chin (eight parts in total) should touch the ground.

 

##### Posture 7: Bhujangasana or The Cobra Pose

In this posture as you look up, pull your upper portion of the body, keeping your elbows bent.

 

##### Posture 8: Parvatasana or The Downward-facing Dog Pose

In this posture, get into a ‘V’ shape moving your hips up.

 

##### Posture 9: Ashwa Sanchalanasana or The Equestrian pose

Here again, bring your right leg forward and place it in the middle of your hands, while stretching your left leg backward

 

##### Posture 10: Hasta Padasana or The Standing Forward Bend

In this posture pull your left leg and bend forward keeping your legs between both your hands. 

Try not to bend your knees while placing your hands on the ground.

 

##### Posture 11: Hasta Uttanasana or Raised Arm Pose

Breathe in, while stretching backward. Pull your hip upward for a better stretch

 

##### Posture 12: Pranamasana or The Mountain Pose

Stand in a straight line as you exhale and bring your arms in a resting position.

 

With these 12 steps, you are ready for practicing Surya Namaskar and don’t forget to add a smile while you practice.
